The First Event

The following extract is taken from the "Nationalist" dated Saturday 9th September 1950 and reads as follows "On Sunday afternoon the inaugural grass track meeting of the Tipperary Light Car and Motor Cycle Club will be held at Powers town Park. Many famous riders including Stanley Woods and the Sargent Bros Cappoquin will take part".

The following extract was published on the mid-week edition of the Nationalist dated September 13th 1950, as part of larger report on the week-end activities in Clonmel particularly the Military Tattoo: "During the afternoon Clonmel had its first introduction to Motor Cycle racing when the recently formed Tipperary Light Car and Motor Cycle Club held its inaugural event - a grass track meeting at Powers town Park. A large crowd attended and were very favourably impressed by the sport. The attractive feature was the attendance of Stanley Woods, the famous motor cyclist who competed in several races and figured in the most thrillingfinish of the day. "

The Committee of the Tipperary Light Car and Motor Cycle Club on the occasion of the Races held at Clonmel last month. With them is Stanley Woods who can still show the youngster a thing or two.
